The Long Good Friday is a British film starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren. This is my favourite film I've watched for the Jelly Club so far! The British films following this period were violent and sexual. It was completed in 1979 but, because of release delays, it is generally credited as a 1980 film. The popularity of British films in Britain peaked between 1940 and 1949, and began to decline in 1950, eventually plateauing in 1970. The beginning hands you some information with no context at all. What I mean by this is that when one thinks of a British film, the natural instinct is to imagine Loach-y Play-for-Today gritty realism, or traditionalist nostalgia in the vein of prime time ITV3 pap. "The Long Good Friday" was given a limited release in the U.S. but fortunately it opened in Los Angeles. Everything he says is as quotable as an Arnold Schwarzenegger film.
